Updates to the Smoke-Free Ontario Act

Updates to the Smoke-Free Ontario Act

The updated Smoke-Free Ontario Act (SFOA) will come into effect on July 1, 2018 and regulate the sale, supply, use, display, and promotion of tobacco and vapour products (i.e. electronic cigarettes, accessories and heat-not-burn devices). The Electronic Cigarettes Act (ECA) will be repealed and all components will be regulated under the SFOA.

Existing rules for tobacco under the SFOA will remain in place and in addition, the SFOA will prohibit the display and promotion of tobacco products, branded tobacco product accessories, and vapour products at places where they are sold.

Existing rules for electronic cigarettes under the ECA will remain in place but will now fall under the SFOA. In addition, new rules regarding display and promotion will come into force. More information will be posted on the website in the coming weeks.
